The joy of building a small business

After I began building a small business, I experienced the joy of using all my talents and managing my own future. My book tells about the wonder and exhilaration I experienced as this happened.

Dear diary,

I just realised I have fallen in love and I never knew it was possible! Who? What? How? OMG, you say. What happened to Jim?

Please calm down. I am not talking about being in love with a person. I did that fifteen years ago when I met Jim, but that is another story.

What I’m talking about is I never thought, after all these years, that it would be possible to fall in love with a company. ‘Flirting’ with—yes. Even extremely fond of—yes. But really love a company? —no.

Jim and I talked last night about this; that’s probably why it was on my mind this morning. I feel so happy and relieved. I know I am meant to be doing this. Watch out world, here I come! I am going to change lives and help so many people!

I have never let myself get too attached to companies before. Too risky. Companies are too unpredictable. Just when you thought you were doing a great job, boom! Gone! I’m not going to be a Moaning Myrtle about this again, but it’s happened to me several times. Thus, I have been jaundiced by the behaviours and values of companies over many years. I can truly say I never thought it possible to have such positive feelings for an organisation. To actually see ‘pay it forward’ as part of a company’s values is truly amazing! So, I do feel like saying: Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! Anything is possible.
